WOODWARD — The staff at Western Plains Youth and Family Services is asking the community to help provide Christmas presents for the 50 to 60 children in the agency’s care."We understand that it is a hard year to give,” said Kevin Evans, executive director, noting that numerous families who have come to Western Plains for help are struggling because of the recession.The agency is facing its own financial troubles through budget cuts, he said."This year we have had more kids in our shelter and in our programs — we just have more kids to buy for,” he said.Western Plains sponsors an Angel Tree program each year to try "to ensure that every kid gets something,” Evans said.

NEW YORK (AP) — ABC says more than 1,500 people have called to complain about Adam Lambert's sexually charged performance at the American Music Awards.
The network characterized the response as "moderate." Before his performance, Lambert said that he wanted to break down a double standard that existed where female performers are often sexually provocative while men don't do it that often.

Canada woman to fight insurance company over Facebook
MONTREAL (AP) — A Canadian woman on sick leave for depression said Monday she would fight an insurance company's decision to cut her benefits after her agent found photos on Facebook of her vacationing, at a bar and at a party.
Nathalie Blanchard said Monday she was diagnosed with major depression and was receiving monthly sick-leave benefits until payments dried up this fall.
When Blanchard called her insurance provider, Manulife, to find out why, she says she was told the Facebook photos showed she was able to work.

Oklahoma poultry litter trial marred by more delays
TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma's trial against the Arkansas poultry industry continues to be marred by delays and squabbling attorneys.
Things boiled over again Monday morning, when poultry company attorneys objected to an expert witness Oklahoma wanted to put on the stand.
The objection caught U.S. District Judge Gregory K. Frizzell by surprise, because he was out of state late Friday when the motion was lodged with the court.
Frizzell, as if assessing the trial so far, said, "this is absurd," and added that any lawsuit could be boiled down to a handful of key documents.
Instead, Frizzell has been bombarded with thousands of legal briefs, which he complained about last week.
